They join a dedicated group of existing members: Erinn Drage (Chair), Meagan Grabowski, Mary Jane Johnson, Lawrence Ignace, Dr. Julia Klein, Marlin Legare, and newly appointed Board and RMC members, Dr. Emily McAuley, Dr. Myrle Ballard, and Bill Borland.
The Research Management Committee supports the development and oversight of BKC’s research and training programs by providing strategic advice, adjudication processes and outcomes, and recommendations to the Board of Directors. Working collaboratively with management, the Committee reviews research priorities, funding approaches, and program performance to ensure alignment with the organization’s strategic objectives and accountability requirements.
The Committee is responsible for overseeing fair and rigorous adjudication processes, approving reporting and evaluation mechanisms, and recommending policies that strengthen program delivery. In partnership with the Indigenous Circle of Advisors, it also advances ethical research practices, Indigenous methodologies, and supports approaches to knowledge sharing that braid Indigenous and Western ways of knowing.
Independent members play a critical role on the Research Management Committee by ensuring that funding decisions are fair, unbiased, and grounded in rigorous, arm’s-length review. Their independence strengthens transparency, accountability, and trust, helping ensure that research and knowledge investments reflect merit, community impact, and the priorities of diverse partners.
