This project seeks to provide sustained support for the Assembly of First Nations (AFN) Advisory Committee on Climate Action and the Environment (ACE) and related expert technical representatives. The ACE provides critical guidance and contributions to advance Environment Sector (ES) and Water Sector (WS) efforts in a variety of key policy areas including but not limited to, climate action, terrestrial and marine conservation and stewardship and environmental health.
The ACE is comprised of regionally appointed representatives with both political and technical expertise, along with representatives from the AFN’s Knowledge Keepers Council and Youth Council and additional subject matter experts. In its composition alone, among other things, the ACE enables and embodies the practice of braiding research, knowledge, knowledge mobilization and capacity development in the areas of climate, conservation, biodiversity, environmental health and water stewardship, among others. All of this, with the goal of positioning First Nations as consequential leaders in these respective areas and empowering self-determination through collaborative approaches to advocacy, constructive technical dialogue, policy, program and legislative development.
