CMN has &#8220;learned by doing&#8221; reconciliation with a commitment to broadly share these results. With initiatives that range in scope from revitalizing Indigenous cultural practices to enhancing the well-being of wildlife to understanding social, ecological, and economic impacts of climate change, CMN can be viewed as an example-in-action of the successes of collaboration between Western and Indigenous knowledges in research and knowledge sharing. \n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-2bc1ac2 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" data-id=\"2bc1ac2\" data-element_type=\"container\" data-e-type=\"container\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-31e4394 elementor-widget elementor-widget-heading\" data-id=\"31e4394\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"heading.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<h2 class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Research Program<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-19c044a about-links elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"19c044a\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCMN\u2019s purpose is to support the resilience and health of Canada\u2019s mountain peoples and places through research partnerships based on Indigenous and Western ways of knowing that inform decision-making and action.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e1d3edb about-links elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"e1d3edb\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCombined with contributions from diverse partner organizations, the Canadian Mountain Network (CMN)\u2019s funding from the Government of Canada\u2019s Networks of Centres of Excellence program (April 2019 \u2013 March 2024) represents a once-in-a-generation opportunity to position Canada as a global leader in mountain systems research at a time when Canada\u2019s mountain systems are undergoing rapid and uncertain change.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-0ffc5fd about-links elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"0ffc5fd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCMN&#8217;s research program currently funds <a href=\"https:\/\/www.canadianmountainnetwork.ca\/research\/current\" rel=\"noopener\" target=\"_blank\">17 place-based research projects<\/a>, <a href=\"https:\/\/braidingknowledgescanada.ca\/en\/completed-knowledge-hubs\/\">seven innovative Knowledge Hubs<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/braidingknowledgescanada.ca\/en\/cmn-strategic-initiatives\/\">11 Strategic Initiatives<\/a> across Canada, which include:\n<ul>\n \t<li>35 active projects, of which 90% are Indigenous-led, co-led or focus on the braiding of knowledges<\/li>\n \t<li>320 researchers and collaborators<\/li>\n \t<li>179 trainees<\/li>\n \t<li>181 partner organizations<\/li>\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-e5e5fbd elementor-widget elementor-widget-button\" data-id=\"e5e5fbd\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"button.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div mountain systems<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b266b2b about-links elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b266b2b\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tInformed in part by the first-ever global assessment of the threats to mountain systems (Klein et al., 2019), the Network has identified four critical, interdependent drivers of change in Canada\u2019s mountain systems:\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-8edaa00 about-links elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"8edaa00\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ul>\n<li>Climate Change<\/li>\n<li>Land Use Change<\/li>\n<li>Policy &#038; Markets<\/li>\n<li>Reconciliation<\/li>\n\n<\/ul>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element livelihoods of and risks to mountain peoples.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-18f9815 e-con-full e-flex e-con e-child\" class=\"elementor-heading-title elementor-size-default\">Indigenous-led research<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-ea2cc6e about-links elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"ea2cc6e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\tCMN has strongly advocated for bringing multiple ways of knowing to the table to inform and enhance decision-making, including Indigenous and Western knowledge approaches. Indigenous-led research is research that is based on Indigenous ways of knowing and doing. Affirming the validity of Indigenous research approaches, as well as building a greater awareness and understanding of those approaches by all network participants, is critical to deliver on CMN\u2019s vision and mission. CMN is working collaboratively with diverse researchers, trainees, and knowledge users across Canada to design and deliver new approaches to research that respect and empower Indigenous knowledge.\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-b65d30c about-links elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"b65d30c\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><strong>Indigenous-led research projects must meet several criteria:<\/strong><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-d33610f about-links elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"d33610f\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<ol>\n \t<li>Clearly respond to identified Indigenous community needs and research priorities;<\/li>\n \t<li>Funding may be administered by Indigenous organizations or post-secondary institutions;<\/li>\n \t<li>Be led by an Indigenous individual;<\/li>\n \t<li>Receive formal and detailed support from Indigenous community leadership; and,<\/li>\n \t<li>Prioritize community engagement and capacity building, including Indigenous trainee development.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div
